James Jamieson & Co.

James Jamieson took over the Bo'ness Pottery in 1826 and the firm traded as James Jamieson & Co. until 1859. It is not listed in Godden M.

The firm produced a large number of printed wares but only one relief-moulded jug has been recorded, titled "Canton".

"Canton"
Design not registered. The significance of the title is unclear, not apparently related to the design of Roman chariots. An example in blue is recorded with an inscription dated 1851. The shape with the branch handle and grapevine border is a close copy of the "Ranger" jug by Edward Walley (also Samuel Alcock).
Marks: impressed title and initials "CANTON / J J & Co."

The blue toast water jug shown here is not marked.
