G.R. Booth & Co.

George Robins Booth & Co. are listed at the Waterloo Works in Hanley in just one directory for 1841 where the entry is erroneously titled "Booth (George), Robins & Co." The firm is not listed by Godden but some details are available on thepotteries.org website (Steve Birks), including the fact that pottery manufacture started in 1829 and ceased c.1844. The style "& Co." is dated as 1839-44.

As far as jugs and related wares are concerned the firm appears to have concentrated on wares with moulded or turned bodies enhanced with ornately moulded handles and spouts and by sprigged decoration, a technique which had largely been superseded by fully moulded wares some decade or more ago. All examples noted to date bear a publication mark for 23 May 1839, although most of them would not have qualified for the protection offered by publication since it was restricted to human or animal forms. The wares are quite distinctive and selected examples are shown below although others may well exist.
