The Double-Underline Pattern Number Group

Cuno Koopstra and Dick Henrywood

Previous articles have covered series of pattern numbers used by various pottery firms, but there is one group of wares which are numbered quite distinctively so form a specific group. The pattern numbers are printed on the wares, normally followed by a full stop and with two short lines underneath. The numbers range between 52 and 88 and so far have been found only on teawares. Only one pattern has so far been recorded with any title ("Fountain of Love", pattern 88). The maker is unknown but two impressed marks may give a clue; one a crown and the other a distinctive star-like symbol. Other small workman's marks are found which are not necessarily distinctive but may be helpful in identifying other examples.

This is clearly not a comprehensive list and there must be other examples to be recorded. Contributions from other collectors would be most welcome.
